The Harlem Reniassance
The Harlem Reniassance was a cultural movement that began in 1920 and lasted a little over a decade. Also known as "The Negro Movement", the Harlem Reniassance is known to be the period in time that black folk began to involve themselves in all types of art. Whether it be music, sculpting, or even literature, the activites within the movement gained a large amount of respect and admiration for negroes. The Reniassance is commonly refered to as a "cultural explosion" within the community that is said to have generated the movement. This community, as you probably already guessed, is called Harlem. Harlem is a neighborhood within the borough of Manhattan, New York. To this day, Harlem is still famous for the cultural outburst in the 1920's.
