The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes
The State of Tennessee v. John T. Scopes, better known as the Scopes Trial, was a court case that found Mr. Scopes guilty of going against the Butler Act, which outlawed the teachings of the Theory of Evolution. Only recently has the Theory of Evolution been accepted for teaching within the education system in the United States. Prior to the Scopes trial, the teaching of this theory in a school was practically unheard of, not to mention highly illegal since it went against the Holy Bible. The origin of man has been openly debated ever since this trial, but has never been fully proven in order to teach in the classroom. These days, both Evolution and and the biblical origin or man are openly discussed in the classroom.
